Design & Features

The HW-K450 has the Samsung’s traditional soundbar design, very straight and simple. The K450 looks solid and very well engineered, built with great quality materials, which confirms its durability. The main bar is a black rectangular unit that uses a metal grille and a decent level of build quality. It measures 35.8 x 2.8 x 2.1 inches and weighs in 4.4 pounds. The sound bar looks very slim but it should be large enough for screen sizes up to 55 inches. There are panels at either end, with a black metallic finish. The connections are all located on the back of the sound bar and you can find the on/off, source select and volume control buttons just on the right end panel side of the bar. In the middle there is a simple display that shows the selected inputs, the volume, the sound effect and any other settings. Very easy and straightforward. You have different placement options for the bar, it can be mounted on the wall or placed on the TV table. It’s pretty low-profile, so it should fit quite happily underneath most TVs, and it certainly shouldn’t disturb the IR receiver if you end up placing the soundbar in front of it. Looks nice anywhere you place it.
The Subwoofer is a simple box wrapped with gloss black plastic and black cloth finish. It has a simple design and size which can be fitted anywhere in the room. It easily connects wirelessly with the panel when you turn it on. With the Wireless Active Subwoofer, enjoy the powerful and dynamic bass for a lifelike home entertainment experience. There is also a remote controller in the box for easy function controls.

Sound & Performance

The HW-K450 delivers an impressive sound and an outstanding performance. It is designed to easily work with the screen sizes up to 55 inches. The audio quality is above average considering its size and price tag. The sound has a nice feeling of immersion, even without resorting to the listening modes. Both the high and mid frequencies are well served and it can get loud enough without distorting for an average-sized living room.

The Samsung HW-K450 is a solid upgrade over TV speakers although it won’t blow you away with its audio performance, it does give a detailed sound and punchy bass. The simple to use sound bar is an excellent choice for anyone on a budget who’s looking for an upgrade over their TV speakers.

The bass also functions very good thanks to an amazing Subwoofer which combines well with the soundbar, delivering a decent and crisp sound. There should be no expectation for a great surround sound but it still does the job given the type and size of rooms that the K450 will be used in, it’s more than enough. You can also expand your surround system by spending a bit more and adding the SWA-8000S Wireless Surround Kit to your package.

The K450 has six listening modes – Standard, Sports, Cinema, Clear Voice, Music and Night Mode. With the Night mode on, it cuts down on the amount of bass produced by the subwoofer so you don’t disturb your neighbors quite as much when you’re watching films late at night. There’s also a Surround Sound effect that can be applied to each modes. Each modes has its own effects over the audio you listen to while the standard mode almost works great. The surround mode would not actually produce a huge surround effect and although it gives the audio a slightly greater sense of immersion, we think that the combination of the soundbar and the subwoofer is enough to offer a great audio performance. The sound bar enjoys great reviews and ratings by users and is on the list of Best Sound Bars in the market.
